Social psych: way individual"s thoughts, feelings and behaviours are influenced. Study person perception, attribution processes, interpersonal attraction, attitudes, conformity, behaviour in groups and social neuroscience. Physical appearance: attractive people = sociable, friendly, poised, warm, well adjusted, competent, better jobs, high salary. Cognitive schemas: social schema: organized cluster of ideas about categories of social events/people, self-schemas: set of memories/beliefs about own behaviour, aschematic: no self- schema to particular domain. Stereotypes: beliefs ppl have certain characteristics because they are part of a certain group (age, sex, occupational stereotypes) inaccurate perceptions of people and is subject to self- fulfilling prophecy. Evolutionary: biased because perceptions were adaptive to ancestral environment. Programmed by evolution to classify as ingroup(one belongs to and identifies with group) vs outgroup(doesn"t belong to/identify with) Attributions: inferences people draw about the causes of events, others behaviour and own behaviour. Internal attributions (stable/unstable): ascribe causes of behaviour to personal dispositions, traits, feelings.
