Chapter 5 ethyl alcohol and the inhalants of abuse: ethyl alcohol (ethanol) psychoactive drug (cid:494) diffuses easily across biological membranes, rapidly and completely absorbed by the stomach and upper intestine. It: alcohol gets evenly distributed throughout the body and all tissues. The bbb is permeable to alcohol: 5% is excreted through urine; 85% of metabolism occurs in the liver. Increased sociability, increased talkativeness, decreased inhibitions, diminution of attention, judgment and control. Memory, concentration and insight are dulled: alcohol plays a major role in battery, rape, sexual assault and deviant behaviour. 0. 14%grams; alcohol appears to suppress memory protein formation: tolerance enzyme. 25% of tolerance: more than 50% of motor vehicle accidents are due to alcohol, alcohol abuse in adolescents: poor visuospatial functioning amount of drug present. People with this kind of tolerance may appear less intoxicated, but are just as intoxicated as an individual who is not tolerant: fragmentary black outs bits and pieces are remembered.
