Suicide takes a surprising perspective on social events because, it is non- social. Because it is condemned by society, and committed in private. Sociologist would be interested in the individual mind rather than on the state of society. Suicide is more than psychological disorder; it is in uenced by social factors. Examined between rates of suicide and rates of psychological disorder. Predicted: suicide rates high, psycho disorder high -> wrong (p6) Suicide and the innu of labrador: social solidarity: degree which group members share beliefs/values; frequencies of their interactions. Argued the higher degree of social solidarity in a group, the less likely to kill oneself. He showed married adults are half as likely than unmarried adults to kill themselves because of marriages social ties . Suicide varies with the degree of integration of the social groups of which the individual forms a part .
