P2p network: local admin, each node can communicate with every other node. Client/server: central admin, client accomplish tasks, servers administer network function. Throughput: actual speed of data transfer achieved, always less than or equal to data transfer rate. Devices connected to or installed in network nodes. Enables nodes to communicate and access network. Switches send packets to nodes on same network. Use ethernet protocol as standard for network communication. Wi-gig will be faster, but won"t be available for several years. Composed of four pairs of wires that are twisted around each other to reduce electrical interference. Cat 6 cable: best utp for home networks. Signal degrades after 100 m (328 ft) Network attached storage (nas) devices: store and manage data. Home network server: more sophisticated nas device, but performs only a limited set of functions performed on networks. Connect to network, allow you to access/share content with players all over the world.
