Document Summary

Network architecture refers to the design of a computer system or network. Open architecture: where anyone can know the design allowing them to develop software and hardware to work with it. Closed architecture: a proprietary design it makes it difficult for outsiders to design programs that work with the network. The most common network architecture is the client/server architecture. Each computer is running either server software or client software, or both types simultaneously. Server software: provides data or resources to other computers on the network. Computers running server software are referred to as servers with each server usually focused on a particular task. Processing is shared among multiple small computers known as clients that are connected via a network to a host computer known as a server. Clients: typically pcs and workstations are network computers running client software that request services from servers. They depend on servers for network resources like software, files, devices and access to the internet.
