Decline eliminates the motivation for elected members of parties to define general policy objectives. Leading to diminished political participation + rise in alienation. Policies aimed at serving the narrow interests of single issue groups instead of broad constituents represented by parties. (another example of individual constituent services from congress members?) American politics has suffered from lack of strong political parties providing electoral accountability. Founding fathers wanted a national government government do things for it"s citizens, not what it does to its citizens (major difference!) Increasing and recently people demand for the government to act positively. Uncoordinated actions of individuals and groups inflict serious damage on the nation.
