PSYC 310 Chapter Notes - Chapter 5: Adderall, Google Scholar, Impact Factor
Document Summary
Population a group sharing some common characteristic. Sample the small set of individuals who participate in the study. Have all the characteristics that are present in the total population. Have no substitutions or incompleteness (sometimes when studying sick people etc. you can"t find enough people with that characteristic so you take people that are close to that sickness. Or if you"re studying certain people over time and they die ) You grab a sample from a population and you want your results to be able to be generalized for the whole population. Trying to get all the characteristics of your population into a smaller group. Then think about accessible population (those you can actually access) Then you create your sample from the accessible population. The more representative your sample, the more confident you can be that you can generalize your results to the population. A sample with different characteristics than those of the population.
