Measurement: refers to the process of systematically observing some feature or characteristic of the world and then recording it in the form of a number or category. Primary data: data that the researcher creates through surveys or other methods. Secondary data: data that exist already because they were collected as part of a prior administrative or research activity. Big data: a general term referring to the gathering, merging, and creative use of very large data sets, often from electronic records or online sources to solve problems. Quantitative data: information that is recorded, coded and stored in numerical form. Quantitative variables: any variables in which the number represents quantities of something. Can be quantitative to sort, count, summarize and analyze data. Qualitative data: the raw data from qualitative research, which can take the form of field notes, interview transcriptions, videos or audio recording, documents, among others. Can be coded into categories to use as quantitative data.
