In 2011, there were 10. 8 suicides for every 10 000 people in canada. Emile durkheim demonstrated that suicide is more than just an individual act of desperation that results from a psychological disorder. Durkheim held that suicide rates varied because of differences in the degree of social solidarity. The rate of divorce has increased sixfold since the early 1960s. Births outside of marriage are also much more common now. As a result, more children are now being raised in single-parent families which suggests that, on average, they experience less adult supervision and less frequent and less intimate social interaction with their parents. Social solidarity: refers to 1) the degree to which group members share beliefs and values, and 2) the intensity and frequency of their interaction. Patriarchy: is the traditional system of economic and political inequality between women and men. Social structures: are relatively stable patterns of social relations. 3 levels of society that surround and permeate us.
