BIOLOGY 2F03 Chapter 3: 3- Aquatic Life on Water
Document Summary
Biological communities nourished by photosynthesis from the surface, or chemosynthesis on ocean floor. High temps, light and pollution can breakdown specieis (hard exoskeleton when dead help reefs form) => coral bleaching. Zonation of species: some are constantly exposed to tides by inhabiting the highest intertidal zones and others are exposed 1 . Mangrove forests: forest of subtropical and tropical shores due to sensitivity to frost. Around are natural levees and marsh flats wth small basins called salt pans (water enter, evaporate and leaves salt) Water birds and water animals dredge salt marshes which ruin habitats. Heavy metals are discharged into areas, bioaccumulati on, elevated toxic levels. Divided into from surface or subsurface flow to channels that lead to larger and larger basins. Streams lengths (poolr, runs, riffles and rapids), widths (wetted channels, nels) and vertically (water surface, water column and benthic zone)
