Height: as plant gets taller, it gets cooler under. Plants modify microhabitat by: shading, cooling effect of evaporation, accumulating litter. If soil retains more water, it is also cooler. Is it warmer or cooler than white sand: dark sand is hotter. We turn on the heat by adding greenhouse gasses. Lots of heat is coming in, but ocean has huge capacity to absorb it- that"s why there"s little change.
