Media and communication are central to our understanding of the world and how we coordinate our actions within in. Mass communication: historically, a term used to describe communication to a large undifferentiated group. More recently, the term has also been used to describe communication between a large number of individuals. Media are central to the ways in which, as indvls, we come to know and understand the world. Media are involved in almost all aspects of our lives. E. g. choosing a career, getting an education, thinking about politics and gov"t, finding the music we listen to. Media play on how we experience time, from both the past and the present. In 2013, canadians spent ~36 hr/week watching t. v. or on the internet and 17. 5 hrs/week listening to the radio. We are connected to technology an average of 9. 9 hrs/day. Help people bind together on common ideas and understandings of culture.
