The ability to use input devices is critical to the overall success one has with a computer system. An input device enables the user to input information and commands into the computer. Primary input device used for entering text and numbers. A standard keyboard contains about 100 keys. Keyboarding is the ability to enter text and numbers with skill and accuracy. The most common layout for ibm-compatible computers is the ibm enhanced keyboard. It has 101 keys arranged in 5 groups. The alphanumeric keys are the parts of the keyboard that look like a typewriter. They are arranged in the same way on almost every keyboard (qwerty) Also includes the tab, caps lock, backspace and enter keys. Modifier keys modify the input of other keys. Useful because they give other keys multiple capabilities. Shift is used to create a capital letter with a letter key, or can be used to select text.
