Union (labour union: canadian/trade union: british) - employee organization that has the main goal of representing members in employee management bargaining over job-related issues. Craft union an organization of skilled specialists in a particular craft or trade. Industrial union one that consists of unskilled and semi-skilled workers in mass-production industries such as automobile manufacturing and mining. Union density measures the percentage of workers who belong to unions. Growth and influence of organized labour have depended on two major factors: the law and public opinion. One workplace law is the right to know about workplace hazards and right to refuse unsafe work. Tips businesses can do to limit an employer"s potential liability: take complaints seriously, acknowledge receipt of the complaint, perform an unbiased investigation, report back with your findings, avoid retaliation. Labour relations board (lrb) is a quasi-judicial body that consists of representatives from government, labour, and business. Functions more informally than a court (but full authority of the law)
