Objective: why do people live in harms way. People live near volcanoes and flood plains event rebuilt in areas previously destroyed. The reasons are cultural, economic, or even frugalous. In nature, erosion produced in time has large affects. Infrequent catastrophic events have a sudden and major impact. This leads to the disruption of the temporary equilibrium of opposing influences. Large events are part of nature; they are disastrous if they affect people. A natural hazard: a natural process, which poses a threat to human life or property. A natural disaster: natural event that causes significant damage to life or property. Catastrophe: natural event that kills or injures large number of people that causes large property damage. The potential impact of natural disaster relates to size and location of event. If there is few people or buildings there little damage. In heavily populated areas there s catastrophic damage and deaths. In heavily populated areas there will be catastrophic deaths and damage.
