Operant and classical conditioning, behaviourist, exchange theory, functionalist. A tool for uncovering general laws of cause and effect of human behaviour. To predict behaviour, to test general theories of behaviour by testing of hypotheses. Societies go through 3 stages in their development. Metaphysical stage (dominated by abstract speculation) (ex: socrates) Positive stage (dominated by scientific thinking) (people were trying to observe, collect data, look for causal data etc) Humans are part of our natural world. Positivists argue research should be value free so this does not influence the outcomes of their studies.
