Document Summary

Controls flow of substances inside and outside of cell. Helps identify cell to other cells (eg immune cells) Cytoplasm: consists of all the cellular contents between the plasma membrane and nucleus. Nucleus: houses cell"s dna, control most of cellular structure and function. Epithelial tissue: forms glands. this tissue allows body to interact with both internal and external environments. Muscular tissue: process, muscular tissue generates heat that warms the body. Nervous tissue; responds by generating electrical signals called nerve action potentials (nerve impulses) activate muscular contraction and glandular secretions. Contact points between the plasma membranes of tissue cells. there are 5 most important types of cell junctions. Tight: contain weblike strands of transmembrane proteins that fuse together the outer surfaces of adjacent plasma membranes to seal off passageways between adjacent cells. Desmosomes (desmo=band): contain plaque and have transmembrane glycoproteins. Transfer of nutrients and wastes takes place through gap junctions. Enable nerve or muscle impulses to spread rapidly among cells.
