Sadness, guilt, loss of appeite, sleep paterns, lack of energy, diiculty concentraing, hallucinaions, thoughts of suicide. Mental health is second to cardiovascular problems for disease burden. 20-25% of adults in the us sufer from diagnosable form of mental health. Prevalence of mood disorders creates and economic burden in terms of both mortality and morbidity. Diiculty concentraing, disturbed sleep, change in appeite, faigue, loss of energy. Physiological and psychological factors interact in response to a stressful event. Heredity, coping skills, social support inluence the degree of depression. Monoamine lower levels: serotonin, dopamine, ne, epinephrine: results in arousal and atenion. Reluctance to seek treatment is due to the sigma. Treated through pharmacological means, however they don"t work for everyone. Only 30% of individuals receiving treatment experience alleviaion of their symptoms.
