Because of the ever-growing number of stressors in our lives, physical ailments (e. g. , cancer, cardiovascular disease, colds), along with anxiety and anxiety disorders and depression have become increasingly prevalent in our society. It is worth noting that stress can be caused by many different things, such as: Biological sources substance abuse (alcohol, drugs) and nutritional excess (caffeine, food, sugar) Psychological sources perfectionistic attitudes, obsessiveness, compulsiveness, need for control, neuroses. Interpersonal sources lack of social skills, shyness, insecurity, loneliness, environmental strain (noise, temperature) Many of the psychological stressors are anticipatory ; that is, they are based on expectation as the result of learning and memory . Use exercise as a way of dealing with or handling stress. Stress: a state of disharmony, or threatened homeostasis. Stress is what we experience when we face challenges in our lives.
