Chapter 14 health-related quality of life and exercise. Qol is the term used to describe both subjective and objective evaluations of the goodness of one"s life overall and the goodness of all of the various domains that make up one"s life. Subjective evaluations reflect people"s own perceptions of the goodness /quality of their lives. Objective evaluations are measures of various aspects of one"s life that can be made by someone other than the individual, such as a health care worker or researcher. A subcomponent of qol that reflects the goodness of those dimensions of life that can be affected by health/health interventions, such as one"s physical functioning, emotional well- being, and ability to fulfill family and other social roles. Researchers and clinicians often disagree on the specific dimensions that are part of hrqol, but there is a general consensus regarding the broad, core dimensions that should be considered when measuring hrqol in most populations.
