For instance, loyal and tough: similar to this gangster, our genes have survived many years in a highly competitive world, so certain qualities are expected. Generosity, cooperation and unselfishness cannot be expected from our biological nature. They are learned: advocating for one side of the nature vs. nurture debate. Our genes may instruct us to be selfish, but we do not have to behave this way (may be more difficult to learn altruism, compared to if our genes had altruism embedded in them) Humans are unique animals that are influenced by culture. He is concerned with whether the effect of an act lowers or raises survival probability of the altruist and the beneficiary: must use ter(cid:373) (cid:862)appare(cid:374)tly altruisti(cid:272)(cid:863) because we do not really know. Common for neighbour to wait until back is turned/gull is gone fishing and swallow newly hatched, defenseless chicks whole.
