Document Summary
Basic considerations for critical appraisal of qualitative studies: are the results valid, what are the results, can i apply the results. Concerned about credibility, dependability, confirmability, and transferability. Credibility methods in the study that will increase the possibility that credible findings will be produced: achieved when participants recognize the reported data as their own experiences. Dependability met once the credibility of the study has been established: stability of the data over time and conditions. Confirmability refers to researchers describing the activities of the study over time so that any other person can follow what happened: demonstrated by providing substantiation that findings and interpretations are grounded in data. Transferability: also called fittingness, demonstrates the likeliness that research findings have meaning to other in similar situations. Ethnography: studies the meanings, patterns, norms, and values, that influence the experiences or patterns of behavior of a defined cultural group in a holistic fashion to provide a description and interpretation of cultural behavior.
