PHILOS 1B03 Chapter Pgs. 64-82: Readings 1-Hobbes and Leviathan
Document Summary
All things similar relate to each other (ex: multiplying = dividing) Reason = nothing but reckoning the consequences and marking and signifying our thoughts. Signifying = demonstrating our thoughts to others. For every action (ie: subtraction), there is a reaction (adding) Reason has no end; the use of reasoning isn"t to find an answer, but to look at all aspects and consider all possible ideas. Error vs absurdity: absurdity is when we reason in words of general signification and fall upon false inferences. Error is deception (presuming something what is past or to come) but absurdity is words that are inconceivable (aka: round triangle) Reason is neither born with us or gotten by experience, but is attained by industry. We are not endued with any reason at all at birth, but the term reasonable creatures suggest that we have the ability to reason as our lives go on. Chapter vi of the interior beginnings of voluntary motions, commonly called passions.
