Memory retrieval is dependent on retrieval cues a key piece of information that has the potential to activate a memory in full. Ex: the mere smell of lilacs (the cue) makes you tink of the time your grandmother and you picked flowers are her farm. Cues become integrated with memory at encoding, and so processes of encoding and retrieval are highly interconnected. The study of false memory is important in understanding processes of memory in general. Memory and remembering is based strongly on processes of reconstruction. Multistore model of memory provides a simple way to conceptualize types of memory: includes short term, long term and sensory memory. We perceive the world as a continuous representation. Sensory memory = the transient maintenance of perceptual and physical information from the very recent past.
