PSYCH 1X03 Chapter Notes - Chapter 1.5: Standardized Test, List Of Fables Characters, Energy Drink
Document Summary
Blinding: when participants do not know whether they belong to the experimental group or control group, or which treatment they are receiving: ex. Eric would be advised to give all of his participants a drink, regardless of whether they belong to the experimental or control group, and the only difference between the groups is the content of their drink. If neither group knows whether their drink is the true energy drink, we can reasonably believe that they are both likely to be influenced by the placebo effect equally. Experimenter bias: experimenter bias can influence results as well, since they already know the hypothesis that that they are attempting to test. Experimenter bias: actions made by the experimenter, intentionally or not, to promote the result they hope to achieve: ex. Divide the energy drinks and non-energy drinks into bottles a and b, and only disclose which is which after the experiment is completed.
