Drug tolerance is the decreased e ectiveness of a drug. Learning plays a role in the development and maintenance of drug tolerance. Results: experimental groups displayed lower pain sensitivity on rst session that control groups, functional and non-functional groups of same environment showed no di erences in sensitivity. Discussion: environmental cues played cruicial role in mechanisms of tolerance. Limitations: no pre-tests were used to explore variance in pain tolerance amongst the rats prior to the experiment, study used male rats only. A relatively enduring change in the mechanisms of behaviour that occurs due to experience. Mechanisms of behaviour: motivation, latent learning. Learning that is not yet re ected in behaviour: when learning occurs, something changes in the processes and systems that produce behaviour. Learning involves change that is relatively enduring: learning should tend to be retained over time whether or not it is expressed in behaviour.
