The role of visual information is reflected in visual representations in our everyday life. Visual cues take on more importance than the actual source of the sound. The visual system processes and interprets visual information. Eyes process light to visualize the world. Travels as a wave: varies in two respects, amplitude. Is an indication of perceived brightness: brighter / more intense, wave length. Is an indication of perceived colour: the visible spectrum is species-dependent, purity. Is a desaturated combination of many wave lengths. Light passes through a series of focusing structures in the eye. First passes through cornea (transparent window at front of eye) (focusing process) After cornea light passes through pupil (round window that you see as a black dot in the middle of the eye) After the pupil, the iris, the coloured part of the eye, controls the size of the pupil (consists of band of muscles controlled by the brain)
