Defining abnormality: the 4 d"s, deviance society thinks is acceptable. Abnormal thoughts, emotions, and behaviours deviate from what. Practices of minority groups are considered deviant not wrong, but different. Ex. major depressive disorder excessive dec. in normative mood regulation. Ex. bipolar disorder episodes of mania (feel excessively elated: distress. Neg. feelings of individuals with psychological disorders. Many report feelings of being deeply troubled by their illness. Ex. anxiety disorder experience a seemingly never ending and pervasive sense of dread and anxiety. Not all are accompanied by distress ex. sociopaths feel little if any guilt/remorse for their wrongful behaviours: dysfunction.
