PSYCH 1XX3 Chapter Notes - Chapter 6: Complementary Colors, Primary Color, Additive Color
Document Summary
Primate color vision: distinguish red and yellow against a green background. Not every being is trichromatic like humans. Simultaneous contrast- we perceive color to be different (brighter) based on the background pattern. Advantages: forage fruit in the bushes and trees, detect predators or prey against a background, color of sunset to predict weather. Birds, fish and insects can see uv light: birds are brightly colored to eye of other birds: determine how sexy or healthy bird is = mate selection, while also remaining inconspicuous. Bees see things differently: flowers adapted nectar maps for bees that we cannot see. Primary colors- three colors that can be combined in various proportions to make a color in the spectrum. Subtractive color mixing- colored pigments selectively absorb some wavelengths and reflect others. Every reflective surface absorbs (subtracts) the colors that it does not reflect subtracted reflected. Adding other pigments alters the combination of wavelengths.
