PSYCH 1XX3 Chapter 1-6: Psychology Textbook Notes (Ch 1-6)
Document Summary
Developmental psychologists interested in how individuals come to possess characteristics and abilities that help one interact with a particular situation to produce behaviour. Development no particular age at which developmental psychologists stop being interested (conception death) More focused on childhood because a lot of change happens there. Many experiments difficult to conduct due to the interaction of many variables affecting on development. Quasi-experiment- commonly used research method in developmental(group subjects based on existing levels of that variable; take the world as we find it) Descriptive/normative research asks questions about how things normally change from age to age; analytic asks about the processes + variables responsible for changes in abilities and needs from age to age. Two general types of research design: group over period of time; repeatedly describing/tests(form of within-subjects design) Longitudinal compare development at diff. ages; following same. Results not influenced by any pre-existing diff. b/n ppl.
