Document Summary
Concerned with entire lifespan of human beings. 2 basic kinds of questions that can be asked about development: descriptive or normative research asks questions about how things normally change from age to age. What is the individual capable of at any given age: analytic research asks about the processes and variables that are responsible for the changes in abilities and needs from age to age. 2 general types of research design we might use if one of our critical variables is the age of individuals: longitudinal design. Compare development at different ages by following the same group of individuals over a period of time and repeatedly describing or testing those individuals a form of within subjects design. Primary advantage: eliminate a lot of potential extraneous variables. Disadvantage: very time consuming and costly or subjects may be lost over time or performance may have changed due to practice.
