Deviance: anything that falls out of the mean is abnormal (the extreme points, people that exhibit behaviour that deviates from behaviour that is accepted. One sense gets jumbled with the other senses. This mechanism suggests that we may all have this to some extent. However it is the extreme version that leads to synesthesia. Case study: 4 colours and 4 letters, if asked to associate a colour with a letter people associate. Case study: 2 words used to describe 2 designs. Should this be included in the dsm: it is not in the dsm however. Thought of as being similar to color blindness. Distinct movements in he head, mouth and tongue. In the past people were thought of being possessed (demonic)
