A psychological dysfunction within an individual / associated with distress or impairment in functioning / and a response that not typical or culturally expected. These three criteria : psychological dysfuntion, breakdown emotionally, cognitively, and behaviourally dysfunction, the mind. Wakefield speaks of (cid:858)ha(cid:396)(cid:373)ful d(cid:455)sfu(cid:374)tio(cid:374)(cid:859) (cid:449)hat if jodi(cid:859)s pho(cid:271)ia of (cid:271)lood is (cid:374)ot ha(cid:396)(cid:373)ful (cid:449)hat if evolutionary it makes sence to escape situations where injury is or cutting is. So wakefield says; a psychological disorder is when our mechnisms fails to perform their evolved fu(cid:374)(cid:272)tio(cid:374) a(cid:374)d that(cid:859)s (cid:449)he(cid:374) d(cid:455)sfunction becomes harmful and distressed. Or another way to asses the abnormality is to see if the behaviour/thought/emotion is out f their control or not. Either way it is not easy to define illness or disease and the dsm uses these criterias but its not easy still. Because what is function, dysfunction, out of control. Normal differs from culture to culture so its hard to set a standard definton.
