PSYCH 2AP3 Chapter Notes - Chapter 2.1: Cell Nucleus, Psychopathology, Online Analytical Processing
Document Summary
Psychopathology as a multidimensional model: abnormal behaviour is a result of multiple influences. These influences include: behavioural influences, biological influences, emotonional influences, social influences, developmental influences. Genes: long molecules of dna at various locations on chromosomes within the cell nucleus. Many of our physical characteristics (height, weight, etc) are influenced by our nutritional, social and cultural factors our genes seldom determind our physical development in any absolute way. The question of nature vs. nurture is age-old in psychology. Gene-environment model: association between the genotype a child inherits from his or her parents and the environment in which the child is raised (parents create a home environment that is influenced by their own heritable characteristics) Neuroscience and its contributions to psychopathology: focus of neuroscience = knowing how the nervous system work in relation to our behavior, emotions and cognitive processes. The central nervous system :processes all information received from our sense organs and reacts as necessary.
