Document Summary

Anxiety = an emotion implicated so heavily across the range of psychopathology that is both biological and psychological. Panic = fear that occurs at an inappropriate time. Fear = an immediate alarm reaction to danger: fear + anxiety reactions differ psychologically and physiologically. Panic attack : defined as an abrupt experience of intense fear / acture discomfort, accompanied by an abrupt experience by physical symptoms including heart palpitations, chest pain and possibly dizziness. 2 types of panic attacks: (cued) panic attacks: expected, unexpected (uncued) panic attacks. We inherit things such as tendencies to be tense, anxious and have panic attacks. No single gene (like with almost all psychological disorders) seems to cause anxiety / panic instead, it is a contribution from a collection of genes. Area of brain most often associated with anxiety = limbic system: acts as a mediator between the brain stems and the cortex.
