Diagnosis is only given when symptoms are at odds with developmental level: these also must be evidence of impaired, social, academic, or, symptoms must occur in at least two settings occupational functioning. Although many children display symptoms before age 7, those whose symptoms appear later are excluded from diagnosis. These children do not listen to what is said to them, are easily distracted, do not stick to a task but jump rapidly from one activity to another, are disorganized, lose things, and daydream. Sometimes the children appear unable to focus and concentrate at some times, but at other times they are able to sit for hours drawing.
