Behavioral genetics: personality trait: a pattern of behavior relevant to more than one situation. It should be noted that behavioural genetics, like trait theory focuses soley on aspects of personality that differ between individuals. Dz twins, so overall they are not 50% similar. What heritabilties tell you: genes matter, not all personality comes from environment, everything is heritable . Insight into etiology: can tell you whether specific behavioral or mental disorders are part of the normal range or are pathologically distinctive, moderate retardation runs in families but severe retardation does not. This means that severe retardation must have environmental implications as well: other psychological problems appear to be more like extreme ends of the normal range. Normal tendency to be absorbed in interesting activities and thoughts can, at the extreme, be related to oscyhosis. This gene has an effect on sensation-seeking apparently. Variations in the gene are also related to novelty seeking: genetics of serotonin.
