Chapter 19 psych 2b03: each approach to personality focuses on a limited number of key concerns and ignores everything else, trait individual differences; biological architectrure and function of the nervous system, psychoanalytic . The order of approaches: research on social learning theories(perception, motivation, emotion, and the self), draws on all other approaches(behaviorism, pyshcoanalysis, humanism) Choosing a basic approach: three criteria, what do you want to understand, which approach is most interesting to you, which basic approach offers you the best potential to do interesting work that can add to human knowledge. Towards the obt: awareness and knowledge of all alternatives should be maintained b/c, avoid arroagance, understand proper basis for evaluating alternative approaches. Cognitive social-learning approach has roots in humanistic and behavioral approaches. The unconscious mind: the unconscious mind, the part of the mind that we cannot describe or explain, is important.
