Mechanical cells - some are fast adapting, some are slow adapting receptors: encapsulated receptors. Meissner - super cial surface of the skin to detect light pressures. * fast adapting - sensitive to light touches/stimuli. Ruf ni corpuscles - designed to transmit steady pressure (like the seat of a chair) - The corpuscles (encapsulated receptors) have a special capsule that surround the nerve ending. The castle itself serves as an important function that differ depending on the cell: Pacinian corpuscle (onion-like) provides a mechanical lter for vibrational stimuli (think of how we feel vibration of bass deep within our skin. ) Messier & ruf ni corpuscles provide mechanical lters for transmitting sensitive light sensations of touch and stead pressure (seat of a chair).
