Document Summary

My first observation in the nirenberg essay is the analogy given by blaise pascal with christians, He puts pagans at the bottom of the list, people who do not know god and only love earthly things. He puts christians at the top, given that they know the true god and do not love earthly things. Pascal then puts jews in the middle, claiming they know the same. God as christians but also love earthly things. It strikes me as odd that he would make this claim as a key concept in judaism is putting the lord first, above all material things. I believe that (cid:449)he(cid:374) the israelites put (cid:373)aterial thi(cid:374)gs o(cid:448)er god, they felt the ra(cid:373)ifi(cid:272)atio(cid:374)s. that s (cid:449)hat the whole book of judges is about. The second observation i have about the essay is about the early christian perceived thought surrounding islam, as a religion of fear and violence and of the inadequate love of the flesh and lust.
