Suicide rates are solely based on desperation/psychological disorder but showed there is strong social forces that influence it. It showed that rates of mental illness were high among women yet men had a larger suicide rate. But rates of suicide varied: social solidarity: share of beliefs and values. High meant they were more anchored in. Altruistic suicide: occurs when norms tightly govern behavior so the individual"s actions are towards group"s interest. Soldier jumps on nade to protect his fellow teammate: people with low social solidarity were also more likely to commit suicide. Egoistic suicide: results from a lack of social integration of the individual into a society. Anomic suicide: results from when norms governing behavior are vaguely defined low morality, etc. Society lives in us as we live in society: basically sometimes are decisions are altered by the way we live/the norms of our society. Social structures: stable patterns of social relations: there are 3 levels of social structures.
