Determinism: belief that everything happens the way it does because it is destined to happen this way. Cosmetic surgery has become much more common/popular since the 1990s. The sociological approach to improving human welfare: the relations we have with other people create opportunities for us to think and act but also set limits on our thoughts and actions. Accordingly, we can better understand what we are and what we can become by studying the social relations that help shape us. pp. Classical illustration of the sociological approach to understanding the world and improving human welfare is emile durkheim, 1951. Durkheim refers to the frequency of interaction and the degree of sharing of beliefs, values, and morals in a group as its level of social solidarity .
