Exchange of language and symbols is essential to the symbolic interactionist perspective of human interaction. Children need to learn language skills before they can fully develop their sense of self. Children mimic the attitudes and behaviours of their parents and caretakers. Provides the cognitive information necessary for children to act out other peoples roles. Will often repeat words without knowing what they mean. Children begin to use language to make believe as they play others roles. Develop more language skills and use these skills to think symbolically. When children are capable of managing several different roles at the same time. This power allows us to participate in organized role relationships.
