Opinion: thinking component of attitudes toward any object. Direction: whether attitudes toward an object are negative or positive. Strength: the level of positive or negative response to that object. Prejudice: an attitude of dislike or active hostility toward a particular group in society. Unconscious racism: bias against a group without being aware of it. Institutional racism: minority groups lack the same access to services or opportunities afforded other group members. Social distance: how close we feel to other people. Subtle sexism: unequal treatment of women that goes unnoticed by the person engaging in it. Prejudicial attitudes reflect and are formed to maintain a group"s relative position in society. Prosocial behaviour: any behaviour that benefits another person. Altruism: the motivation to help another person. Starts when kids are able to take role of other.
