Women are overrepresented in part time work: and overrepresented in certain occupations. Elementary school teaching: nursing, retail/service cashiers. Secretarial work: men are more likely to be in. Cut throat contest where women are demeaned: work is inconsistent w any sense of id, happiness, or work-life balance. Many women say that men have better career opportunities: gendered division of labor persists, vertical segregation (status, horizontal status, progress in desegregating occupation has stalled bc of challenges women confront. Precarious work: double shift, wage gaps, motherhood penalties. Shortage of daycare: after women go on maternity they usually make less.
