Document Summary
Experiencing a call to ministry by kathleen steeves. Traditionally, pastors enter their roles through lengthy schooling, internship, and affirmation process involving the larger denomination they"re affiliated w/ and their own church congregation. Women only started to become allowed to become pastors about 50 years ago. For most women, the desire to serve god started early in their lives, but they had limited opportunities and few role models. They often sacrificed many things, but felt compelled to do so due to an irresistible call from god. Reassessed who they were, what their past experiences had been about, and who they were meant to be. Semi-structured qualitative interviews w/ 44 female ministers across canada. Seven dominations: presbyterian, anglican, baptist, free methodist, united. The entrance of women into leadership and clergy positions is one of the most salient transformations in religion in the 20thc.
