Pussy riot is a russian feminist punk-rock band/collective. This group stages guerilla (non- traditional) performances in moscow (one major location being moscow"s cathedral of christ the savior). This group has 11 performers, three of which were sentenced to two years in prison on august 17th 2012 for their guerilla performance in the cathedral. The official criminal charge is hooliganism motivated by religious hatred. This group is unique because they were originated because of a grudge against vladimir putin and because of their anger over certain government policies that discriminate against women. According to one of the members, nadezhda tolokonnikova said that pussy riot is part of the global anti-capitalist movement, which consists of anarchists, trotskyists, feminists and autonomists. She also says that pussy riot"s performances can either be called dissident art or political action that engages art forms.
