Document Summary

Each of us evaluates our own worlds which allow us to make likes and dislikes of virtually everything we encounter. Attitudes: are evaluations of people, objects, or ideas. They are evaluative because they consist of a positive or negative reaction toward someone or something. The focus has been mainly on the way attitudes are created by people"s affective, cognitive, and behavioural experiences, but not all findings are created equally. Although attitudes have affective, cognitive and behavioural components, any given attitude can be based more on one type of experience then the other. Affectively based attitudes: an attitude based more on emotions and feelings than on an objective appraisal of pluses and minuses. Falling in love with someone even though you know they have a history of being untrustworthy. Cognitive based attitudes: the extent to which a person"s evaluation is based primarily on beliefs about the properties of an attitude object.
