Anat 315 compartments of the thigh (c) This is also known as the hamstring compartment. It arises from the ishail tuberosity: crosses the hip + knee joints, extends the hip & flexes the knee. Is innervated by the tibial division of the sciatic nerve. There are 3 true hamstrings (with 4 heads!) The short head does not affect the hip joint. Has a flat aponeurotic origin; it has a big belly that continues/passes down the medial thigh. Insert together on the head of the fibula. Proximal tibia (by way of a long round tendon) A: the 3 muscles from 3 different compartments and 3 different innervations insert on the same spot to form the goose"s foot: sartorius (ant. Some geese travel by foot using this pneumonic to remember the muscles. Blood & nerve supply of the posterior compartment. Blood supply to the compartment is via the penetrating/perforating braches of the profunda femoris artery (largest branch of the femoral artery)
