The sole of the plantar aspect of the foot is a complex, multi-layered structure; it composes of: skin, aponeurosis, 4x layers of muscles & tendons, 3x important ligaments, and veins, arteries, and nerves. In many ways similar to the palmamr aponeurosis in the hand but: It is stronger & thicker: helps support the arches of the foot, the aponeurosis runs subcutaneously (below the skin) from the calcaenus. Inserts by sending 5x slips of tendon that goes to each of the 5x toes (1x each) Flat muscle with a wide belly the belly runs under the calcaneus, Equivalent in hand = abductor digiti minimi brevis. Its belly runs on the hallux (medial) side of the foot; the tendon runs forward to insert on the outside of the 1st. Lateral 4x toes; these tendons split to insert on the either side of the middle.
